Community Service & Service-Learning

Community Service

Students engaged in co-curricular community service are provided the opportunity to explore their values, passions, and career interests; network with UNCG peers and community leaders; learn about themselves and others; practice and develop effective leadership skills; make commitments to social, environmental, and cultural issues; and connect in-class learning with out-of-class experiences.

Service-Learning

Service-Learning (SVL) is: a credit-bearing, educational experience that integrates meaningful community service with academic instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities.

Service-learning provides an opportunity for colleges and universities to enhance learning by engaging in activities that are driven by community needs. This teaching pedagogy represents a necessary link in the application of theory to practice while establishing partnerships with local agencies, schools, non-profit organizations, and government.
